The National Microbiology Reference Laboratory (NMRL) Retains International Accreditation Following Successful Re-Inspection by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

NHLDS - 21 JUNE 2023 The Department of National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services retained its International Accreditation for its National Microbiology Reference Laboratory (NMRL by the College of American Pathologists.

CAP Accreditation is the prestigious international accreditation. The approval followed a comprehensive re-inspection conducted by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

The re-inspection process, conducted by a team of highly skilled and experienced assessors from CAP led by Dr. Tagouri, reaffirmed the NMRL's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence in the field of microbiology. The assessment covered various aspects of laboratory operations, including technical proficiency, adherence to best practices, quality management systems, and compliance with international guidelines.

The NMRL's successful retention of international accreditation three years in a row is a testament to its unwavering dedication to providing accurate and reliable diagnostic services to the people of Uganda. This accomplishment not only demonstrates the laboratory's commitment to quality healthcare delivery but also solidifies CPHL’s position as a leading institution in the region.

Accreditation by CAP holds immense significance, as it signifies that the NMRL has met stringent international standards and is capable of delivering accurate and precise laboratory results. It also assures healthcare providers, policymakers, and the general public of the laboratory's competence and credibility in the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases.

The NMRL would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the College of American Pathologists for their meticulous evaluation and valuable feedback. The laboratory also acknowledges the unwavering dedication and expertise of its staff, whose commitment to excellence played an integral role in this achievement.
