Evaluation Report indicates decline in positive samples of Neisseria Meningitis in West Nile region

The report produced by CPHL on 4th April 2014 shows that the outbreak of Meningitis in West Nile region is scaling down due to different interventions in the region and the start of rain season.

CPHL laboratory has been getting samples from West Nile region including; Arua, Yumbe, Maracha, koboko and Adjumani districts since the beginning of the outbreak early Jan 2014. Of the 105 CSF samples received recently, 15 are positives to Neisseria meningitidis.

There was targeted vaccination in two sub counties of Adjumani; Dzeipi and Adropi covering a population of about 700,000 people. CPHL continues its preparedness activities of surveillance and early detection.
