The MoH Uganda- Department of National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS) participated in the National Annual Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases (NACNCD) and 19th Joint Annual Scientific Health (JASH) Conference 2025, held in Munyonyo under the theme โUnified Action Against Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases.โ
During the Dr. Matthew Lukwiya Memorial Lecture Panel Discussion on Identified Critical Gaps in Outbreak Response, speakers emphasized the critical role of laboratories as the backbone of disease surveillance and health security.
The session, moderated by Dr. Andrew Kambugu, Executive Director of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), featured insights from:

Graced by Dr. Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, the panel called for increased and sustained investment in laboratory infrastructure, skilled workforce, and digital systems to strengthen outbreak preparedness and ensure early detection and timely response to outbreaks.
NHLDS reaffirmed its commitment to leading laboratory transformation and innovation to safeguard public health.
