The Ministry of Health Director General of Health Services, Dr. Charles Olaro, has convened a strategic meeting with the Radiology Technical Working Group and the Department of National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS), spearheaded by Commissioner Dr. Susan Nabadda, to deliberate on interventions aimed at strengthening and modernizing radiology and imaging services across Uganda.
This engagement comes as the Ministry formally placed Radiology and Imaging under the Laboratory and Diagnostics sector, a move designed to enhance coordination, streamline service delivery, and optimize resource utilization in the country’s diagnostic ecosystem.
The meeting brings together technical experts and policymakers to assess;
the current state of diagnostic imaging in Uganda
Identify gaps in infrastructure,
Human resource capacity,
Policy implementation, and
Develop actionable strategies to improve efficiency, accessibility, and service quality at all levels of healthcare delivery.
Key areas of discussion also included the modernization of diagnostic equipment, strengthening maintenance systems, and the integration of digital imaging technologies to enable timely and accurate diagnosis. The discussions emphasized capacity building for radiology and imaging professionals through enhanced training opportunities, standardization of practices, and continuous professional development.
By aligning radiology and imaging within the broader laboratory and diagnostics framework, the Ministry of Health seeks to build a robust, integrated diagnostic network that supports evidence-based clinical decision-making and delivers better health outcomes for all Ugandans.
